I love shooting weddings in my hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. I love it so much that I don’t charge for travel there, and I end up shooting there a lot. The downtown has amazing public spaces for taking wedding photos – the captiol, the memorial union, state street, and the university buildings all make for great spots.
One challenge to having so many landmark buildings, however, is that it can be easy to fall into a rut of where to take photos. I don’t ever want my clients to look over my work and see the same location but a different wedding party, so at every location I do different poses, different angles, different lighting, different parts of the space to give truly unique images.
That brings me to Nicole and Rob’s gorgeous wedding at Tripp Commons of the Memorial Union in Madison. We took some photos with the water, and around the union, but my favorite photo was this one at the back of the old armory building between two brick buttresses. I have fun with the lighting, and they had fun with the kissing![]()
