Client: Wisconsin Cheese Originals – portraits for their cheesemaker calendar & promotional use
Details: On-location portraits of 12 Wisconsin artisan cheesemakers
Goals: Create a strong editorial portrait of each cheesemaker while keeping portraits distinctive from one another. Portraits should feel natural, even while using variety of lighting techniques to give shape to sometimes cluttered or dark locations.
Parent albums are usually smaller and thinner than the main albums, and this one for Emily & Lance features a photo cover and hinged pages, but with the same great design as their leather flush mount main album.

Aww they’re prettier than classic photo albums, methinks. 
I am thrilled that Emily & Lance chose this champagne leather & metal cameo combination for their wedding album. The light colors and subtle texture on the leather match the laid back sunny vibe of their wedding celebration, and will last them the rest of their lives!

Details: Photograph Best Chef nominee Alejandro Castillon of Sonora Grill
Goals: Editorial portrait of chef Castillon at his restaurant in the Midtown Global Market food court, as well as supporting editorial images of his food, and candid images of him in the kitchen.

So excited about A City Wedding. It is a pretty new arrival to the wedding blog scene, but it is scratching an itch in wedding coverage that I have felt keenly – featuring urban, modern weddings with clean photography. As much as I love the sort of sunny California haze that dominates many wedding blogs, it can never fully represent the true nature & beauty of Minneapolis weddings, or other urban wedding locals. So, I would like to say welcome to “A City Wedding”, and thank you for existing (and for featuring Ali & Jud’s urban, contemporary wedding)

Preview of several photos I took of Wisconsin artisan cheesemakers for Wisconsin Cheese Originals. This portrait, of Gianni Toffolon of Belgioioso cheese, was in their parmesan aging room. When geometry is important, there are not many places to hide a light, so the accent strobe is actually behind him, and the main light is between the aisles to properly light him and the cheese he is holding.

Brilliant lighting!
Work Hard, Play Hard: That is how many people would describe Kim & Dan. And that is certainly true – they have demanding careers, they enjoy adventuring together and athletic pursuits.
Love is not play, and it is not (always) work – but Kim & Dan love hard, too – and that makes them incredibly fun to be around. Whether it is parading around the capitol square with the UW Marching Band, dancing down the aisle, or just being together, they are fully in that moment.

For this portrait, I used a small strobe hand held at camera right to brighten up Andy & the cheese while making the clouds a little more dramatic.
