St Paul College Club Bridal Shoot Part 1 {vintage style}

Here is the first of a few posts about a very fun photo shoot at the Saint Paul College Club. I was going for a fun and light but slightly vintage feel, which is what the college club vibe is all about anyway.

One of the best parts about the venue is that there is a lot of natural light. It used to be a mansion, and the rooms all have wonderful windows out to the grounds and let in a lot of light.  It was really fun to balance that with some of my off camera lighting to add more texture to the photos. These are some images where the balance of natural lighting and flash worked just how I imagined!

Engagement photos with pink shoes {daily photo}

I think this photo explains why I am so excited about shooting Hanna & Wes’s wedding this August. I am not a huge shoe person (I have to wear practical shoes for long wedding days, so I don’t get much more fancy than danskos or camper most of the time), but I love that Hanna has hot pink saucy pumps, and Wes has comfy sandals, and they just seem to work together.

Brian - The only thing that could make that walleye sandwich look better is an Ale Asylum Hopalicious, a side of curds and some tiger sauce. Great photos, makes me nostalgic for my favorite spot in Madison.

Guthrie Theater engagement photos {Jamie & Dane}

Jamie and Dane had never been inside the Guthrie theater in downtown Minneapolis, but they love the Minneapolis skyline, so it seemed like a natural fit for their delayed engagement session. It was only delayed because they were engaged last year before Dane was deployed, so they scheduled this fun session to coincide with Dane’s week of leave. The cold weather kept us mostly inside, which was a great place to be in March!

I am so happy for you two, and I am sure your October wedding will be fabulous (and hopefully, a little warmer).

Fabulous photo shoot at St Paul College Club {preview}

Last week I joined several other amazing wedding professionals for a photo shoot at the Saint Paul College Club. I can’t wait to post more photos from some of old hollywood inspired set up, but here is a little preview of things to come. This was taken by freelensing, which is when you remove the lens and hold it in front of the camera at various angles to play with the plane of focus.

Paul Von Rieter - Newport Beach Wedding Photographer - What a crazy cool technique. I have so gotta try it, sorta like TS but sorta not. Awesome shot and great composition! I love it.

Tab Mccausland - Really pretty bouquet! Great job!

Lisa Redfern - Looks great — love the way this turned out. The tones of the photo look sooo good with the bouquet colours!

Rae Threnoworth - Nice effect! :) Beautiful bouquet too!

Paul Rowland - Cool effect!

Chavvon Smith - very cool effect! love it!

ayesha - beautiful shot! i’ve tried this before but just at home… tricky to get the focus right, but it’s perfect here! can’t wait to see more! :)

Kate & Patrick’s Winter wedding at Fort Snelling Chapel and Bewiched Deli in Minneapolis

minneapolis wedding photographerI didn’t meet Kate and Patrick before their wedding (they have very busy schedules so we only talked over the phone and email) but I had a feeling we were going to get along well. So when they revealed that their vows contained a promise to have furry animals, I was totally enchanted by what  a cute way that is to describe the home they want to create. It makes even more sense when you know that Kate works with large animals (mostly alpacas, I believe) and knitted the two wraps she wore during the wedding. Kate doesn’t know that one of my life goals is to start an alpaca farm, but I am sure I will ask her for advice if I ever do!

Their cozy and casual wedding continued with a reception at BeWiched Deli in Minneapolis, home to some of the best sandwiches and deli meats in the city. Thanks for letting me be a part of your warm and intimate wedding!

Temple of Aaron January Bar Mitzvah in Saint Paul

I love photographing Bar Mitzvahs – they make me think about life’s milestones and the way that we celebrate them.

Brandon’s Bar Mitzvah at the Temple of Aaron Synagogue in Saint Paul was a pleasure to photograph. The DJ was amazing, and all of Brandon’s family flew into town in the  middle of winter to celebrate.
