Sometimes friendships just sneak up on you: I can’t really place when I became friends with Ian & Liza, but over the years of high school, summer camp, and then as adults, we just sort of fell into a comfortable friendship that I have grown to put the highest value on. I was honored when they asked me to photograph their wedding in Madison, but I also knew that a challenge was upon me: Ian doesn’t smile. Luckily for me (and for Ian) it turns out that when you marry your best friend, you are pretty happy, so he and Liza were all smiles all day, surrounded by an abundance of friends and family to celebrate with. Thanks for so many years of friendship, and I am so happy to see two good friends so happy together.

Ceremony & Reception: Quivey’s Grove
Kayla & Robert’s wedding was gorgeous – from the beautiful St Bernard’s Catholic Church in Middleton to multitude of orchids everywhere to the sunset over the lake at Black Hawk Country Club, it was clear how much effort Kayla and her family put into the planning! Congratulations, Kayla and Robert, on your new life together!

I feel so lucky to know Ian and Liza, and even luckier to have photographed their wedding on such a beautiful day in Madison.

Colleen & Micah met in high school in Madison, WI. They spent a few years apart before they ended up in Chicago, and now they are getting married later this year. Madison made a great backdrop for their engagement photos, and now I am even more excited to photograph their wedding later.

I am so excited for Colleen and Micah’s wedding later this year! Here is a little preview from our fun Memorial Union and Farmer’s Market engagement session!

Kayla & Robert chose Black Hawk Country Club in Madison for their wedding reception because of the view down to the lake. They had a gorgeous sunset to enjoy it by! Congratulations, I am so happy for the two of you!

Katrina & Nathan live in London and have both lived all over the world, so I am sure it surprised some people when they chose Madison, WI for their wedding location. I am equally sure that anyone who attended can attest that they could not have planned a more lovely wedding (or one with lovably rowdy friends).

When Katherine and Ben were planning their wedding, they thought about all the places in Madison where they wanted to take their wedding photos. But they couldn’t think of a wedding venue that suited their personalities, so they decided to go to all their favorite places in Madison for engagement photos, and have their wedding in the Wisconsin Dells. Since we had a long list of places to go (Bascom Hill, Memorial Union, State Street, Capitol, Monona Terrace) I was very happy that we had such a perfect spring day in Madison for photos.

Katherine & Ben are getting married in 2011, but we had an amazing engagement shoot all around downtown Madison. Here is a little preview while I edit the rest of the session.

The Old Fashioned is my favorite restaurant. I am not going to qualify it at all, it is just my favorite restaurant. They have the best cheese plates the world has ever known (and this is from someone who wrote a book about cheesemakers) and their old Wisconsin favorites (like fried walleye sandwiches, or brats and kraut) are made with locally sourced ingredients – that means they taste just like they did 60 years ago, which is delicious.
Last time I was there, I took a few photos of their amazing lazy susan meat platter, and a little of their decor.
