Karen & Jeremy were married last October at the Como Park Historic Streetcar Station and St Anthony Main Event Center. They had carved out extra time so we could ride the Como Park Carousel for some wedding photos. Now their wedding is featured in the Fall 2010 issue of Minnesota Bride Magazine!

Molly and Andy took a big leap to have a themed engagement session – they wanted something with a 60s feel, inspired by the album covers of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings – and it takes a lot of effort to pull that off! I was so impressed that they really committed to the theme – Andy got a new suit, Molly broke out that fabulous dress and matching clutch, and I coordinated the locations. The best part about this engagement session is that, even though it has a specific style to it, Molly and Andy really make it their own. In many ways, I think this is so much more “them” than just finding a pretty park and walking around in it. Did it take more work? Yep, but it was totally worth it! I can’t wait to shoot their wedding next year!

When I talk with bride’s and groom’s about their wedding details, one concern that comes up frequently is lighting – will it be too dark, will you see the ambiance, will it seem natural, can you hide the flaws?
A professional wedding photographer has already thought about those things, and has a game plan. A good professional photographer is also totally willing to abandon that game plan when the time is right. For most of this wedding at the stunning Varsity Theater in Dinkytown Minneapolis, I had two lights on stands around the room to add some direction to the dark ambient light. For this photo, though, I just turned all the lights off to capture Jennifer and Aaron being adorably in love.
