Jessica & Mike are scientists. Having their wedding in the Science Museum of Minnesota is kind of a no-brainer for them. But their wedding was not about the periodic table (settings) or their science-themed quiz: it was about Jessica & Mike- sharing their families, and their passions, and their jokes. Congratulations on the beginning of something great.

“It is pretty dark down there – is that going to be a problem” – that is a good question to ask your photographer when you are getting married in the wine cellar basement of WA Frost. And Erin & Paul did their due diligence when we met.

“Every challenge brings a new set of opportunities.” When you have the right bag of experience, every location becomes a playground of possibilities – sometimes you want to show the location, sometimes it is all about the people, sometimes you want to bring a touch of the unexpected - using the right tools to capture the right moments.

Erin & Paul’s wedding had a lot of right moments, and it was my pleasure to document many of them.

Monochrome – monochrome!

As much as I love black & white, I show mostly color images on my blog because it is hard to hide flaws in color – I want to show that I am capturing, editing, and processing images without flaws (at least, not technical ones).

However, sometimes a photo just demands monochrome, like this environmental portrait from a Erin & Paul’s lovely winter wedding in the stone basement of WA Frost in St Paul.

I first met Meghann a few weeks before her wedding to Matt when we talked about the details of her wedding ceremony at the Guthrie Theater. She also showed me an album of her years with Matt so far – the trips they took, the places they have lived, their celebrations and family. She wanted me to know a little about them before their wedding (which I loved) and when their wedding day came I felt like an old friend.

I didn’t meet Kate and Patrick before their wedding (they have very busy schedules so we only talked over the phone and email) but I had a feeling we were going to get along well. So when they revealed that their vows contained a promise to have furry animals, I was totally enchanted by what a cute way that is to describe the home they want to create. It makes even more sense when you know that Kate works with large animals (mostly alpacas, I believe) and knitted the two wraps she wore during the wedding. Kate doesn’t know that one of my life goals is to start an alpaca farm, but I am sure I will ask her for advice if I ever do!

Their cozy and casual wedding continued with a reception at BeWiched Deli in Minneapolis, home to some of the best sandwiches and deli meats in the city. Thanks for letting me be a part of your warm and intimate wedding!
