Sometimes friendships just sneak up on you: I can’t really place when I became friends with Ian & Liza, but over the years of high school, summer camp, and then as adults, we just sort of fell into a comfortable friendship that I have grown to put the highest value on. I was honored when they asked me to photograph their wedding in Madison, but I also knew that a challenge was upon me: Ian doesn’t smile. Luckily for me (and for Ian) it turns out that when you marry your best friend, you are pretty happy, so he and Liza were all smiles all day, surrounded by an abundance of friends and family to celebrate with. Thanks for so many years of friendship, and I am so happy to see two good friends so happy together.

Ceremony & Reception: Quivey’s Grove
A little moment of Midwestern reflection, with a cow.

Kayla & Robert’s wedding was gorgeous – from the beautiful St Bernard’s Catholic Church in Middleton to multitude of orchids everywhere to the sunset over the lake at Black Hawk Country Club, it was clear how much effort Kayla and her family put into the planning! Congratulations, Kayla and Robert, on your new life together!

My grandfather took thousands of photographs in the 50s through the 80s. His old camera was my first manual camera, and when I look at this photo he took of his large extended Italian family over breakfast in the 1950′s, I have a good understanding of where my “people wrangling” skills came from.

Traditionally, cheddar cheese was bandaged (wrapped in cloth) and cave aged. It is pretty hard to find a cheddar that is made that way and well balanced, which is why Mont Bleu creamery’s cheese is so spectacular. This is the cheesemaker, Willie Lehner, pulling a plug to test it.
When Katherine and Ben were planning their wedding, they thought about all the places in Madison where they wanted to take their wedding photos. But they couldn’t think of a wedding venue that suited their personalities, so they decided to go to all their favorite places in Madison for engagement photos, and have their wedding in the Wisconsin Dells. Since we had a long list of places to go (Bascom Hill, Memorial Union, State Street, Capitol, Monona Terrace) I was very happy that we had such a perfect spring day in Madison for photos.

I am so excited about my post for next week – I have been holding onto some photos for a few months until I had the time to edit them the way they should be done! Here is a little sneak peak:

I had a great time photographing Lisa & Paul’s wedding in Wisconsin. I hadn’t met them before the wedding (they live out of state) and so it was wonderful finding them so fun to work with. They had their reception in a lovely church in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and then the reception was in an actual barn (the Enchanted Barn)
