When you plan an engagement session, you have a unique opportunity to document your couple-ness – a more “day in the life” of two people than your wedding photos, with the tight schedules and tight shoes that make casual strolls almost impossible. And, you can also choose a totally different look than your wedding day – sitting in a canoe, playing in the snow, riding a bike. So, since Sarah + Steven’s wedding is in December, taking photos in the summer means they get both the beautiful green-ness and the bright snow-iness of Minnesota.
So happy to have Sarah + Steven introduce me to an new (to me) park for their engagement photos. Lake Phalen, which I had otherwise only been to during thier holiday lights showcase (which is overpriced and underproduced), I wasn’t sure what to expect when they suggested the park. Not only does it have a beautiful selection of mature trees and walkways, but they have finished construction on a set of bridges that flank a small piece of the river that runs through the park, making for some architectural elements, too. All of this is to say, Sarah + Steven choose things well, have a good time together, and I’m glad to be shooting their winter wedding later this month.
