Somewhere in the middle of the engagement session, Patrick asked me “but how do you get us to look, like, natural and not posed?”

I told him what I always tell people – that is my problem. You don’t have to worry about it.

Because being in the moment allows photos to look natural. That is how I take natural looking photos. The most simple answer and the most complicated answer all in one.

Give me all your photo hangups, all your “we never look good in photos because of” and “what ifs” – let me hold those, like an extra bag, for the duration of the photos. Hopefully, by the time the session is ended, you’ll forget you ever had them to begin with.

But, what does that mean for actual, practical, approach to looking natural in your photos? It means one thing: Enjoy your time together. Seriously, nothing else will work if you can’t be in the moment. Think of this is a date night, with someone documenting it. Yeah, its a little weird. But it also allows you to talk about your days, your plans, your favorite trips together. It allows you to laugh at each other’s jokes, to whisper ridiculous things to each other, to be your natural selves.

Thank you Laura and Patrick! I cannot wait for your wedding!
