Minneapolis weddings with Ethiopian flair

Ethiopian wedding in Minneapolis. With such a large Ethiopian population in Minneapolis, I’m always thrilled to document the ways that people bring their communities together in celebration. Sometimes I am a part of multiple days of events, and occasionally only for portraits, but I’m always thrilled to document joyous celebrations of family, laughter, and dancing. If you are planning a wedding that ties into your Ethiopian culture, I’d love to talk with you about your photography.

Like a tall glass of champagne – Colleen & Micah’s understated, elegant, wonderful madison wedding

When I arrived to take photos of Colleen and Micah, Jessica (Colleen’s sister-in-law) remarked that in her gown, Colleen  looks like a tall glass of champagne. What a fine description for the totally elegant but understated charm that was Colleen & Micah’s wedding. That same simple charm speak a bit also to their relationship – quietly steady, constantly classic. I was so fortunate to able to document their wedding in Madison. Wisconsin Farm House Wedding of Friends {Ian & Liza}

Sometimes friendships just sneak up on you: I can’t really place when I became friends with Ian & Liza, but over the years of high school, summer camp, and then as adults, we just sort of fell into a comfortable friendship that I have grown to put the highest value on. I was honored when they asked me to photograph their wedding in Madison, but I also knew that a challenge was upon me: Ian doesn’t smile.  Luckily for me (and for Ian)  it turns out that when you marry your best friend, you are pretty happy, so he and Liza…

Woods Chapel wedding with Chinese Lion Dancers – Minneapolis

Its been a few years since Adrianne & Ian’s heartfelt Woods Chapel wedding, and yet it still sticks with me. Partially, I’ve loved seeing their family grow (I’ve been taking photos of their twins since they were newborns!) but that it only part of it. Seeing Ian’s joy to be with Adrianne still stands out to me, even after these years. Also, if you’ve ever seen Chinese Lion Dancers perform at a wedding, you wouldn’t forget that, either. They have been through a great deal in their years together, and they brought a joyous sense of triumph to their heartfelt…

Guthrie theater wedding ceremony {Meghann & Matt}

I first met Meghann a few weeks before her wedding to Matt when we talked about the details of her wedding ceremony at the Guthrie Theater. She also showed me an album of her years with Matt so far – the trips they took, the places they have lived, their celebrations and family. She wanted me to know a little about them before their wedding (which I loved) and when their wedding day came I felt like an old friend.

Wedding in Kilkenny Ireland {destination wedding photographer}

Before I was blogging regularly, I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph Katie & Billy’s wedding in Ireland. Billy is from Ireland, and Katie’s family is Boston Irish, so there was a lot of merriment, a good amount of guiness, and lots of laughter. Shooting a wedding in Ireland was like a dream come true, and it was such a pleasure to revisit the images and finally blog them! Some of my favorites are views of the Kilkenny Castle, where we did some formal photos.

Paula & Nicks Northern Minnesota Cabin and Lake Wedding

I’ve been going through weddings from past years, updating the photos and revising the text and I was thrilled to look through the weddings from this Northwoods MN wedding again. Paula and Nick’s wedding was classic Northern Minnesota – a handmade wooden boat for two, fireworks from their family cabin, and a tent full of loved ones. I often talk about my “bag of tricks” when I talk about wedding photography. I’ve developed this back of skills and ideas over the course of my entire life – from my days as a camp counselor I learned the importance of gratitude…

Tracey and Miguel -Milwaukee Art Museum Wedding

Several years ago, I photographed Tracey and Miguel’s Milwaukee Art Museum wedding. I’ve been revisiting some of my favorite weddings on my blog, updating the photos to match my current website, and reflecting on photography over the years. I still keep in touch with Tracey and Miguel via social media. Their family has grown, their careers have blossomed, and they remain classy as hell. They planned their wedding remotely, and so I didn’t even meet them until I drove to Milwaukee for their wedding. I remember most vividly how joyful the occasion felt, even for how joyful weddings normally feel.…
