About the Carousel at Como
The Carousel at Como Park is over 100 years old and ran at the Minnesota State Fair until the 1980s. Now fully restored at the grounds at Como Park, it runs seasonally as weather permits and features gorgeous historic carvings.
Can you take photos at the Como Carousel?
With planning and proper permits, they allow private rental of the carousel perfect for portraits. Photos during operating hours are subject to the comfort of the operators. The hours and operation are independent of the conservatory, and so any plans to use the carousel have to be made with the non-profit and volunteers that run the carousel.

Do you need a permit for photos at the como carousel?
It is best to get a permit for portraits at the Como Carousel. This not only ensures that you will have private access to take photos there, but also that there will not be other people in your photos. They were even kind enough to change the speed for different portraits – it is a portrait session and private carousel tour combined!
What are best portrait locations by the Como Carousel?
Besides the carousel itself, the grounds of Como Park are open to the public through dusk and include the iconic front staircase of the Conservatory as well as smaller gardens from formal to wild. For any photos inside Como Conservatory, a photo permit is required.
