Getting Uncomfortable

“Though this be madness, yet there is method in’t.”

I went to the desert to find myself, I guess. That seems like a very American thing to do – a road trip of self discovery perhaps? A ragtag group of women from all over the country, united as creative business owners. Last summer I went to a feminist photo vacation in Palm Springs. A sort of anarchic sharing of a rental house with models and desert and a pool.

I remembered something: new things are just so darn uncomfortable.

But it is so important to be uncomfortable.

Creatively of course, the idea of the tortured artist has become a cliche. But as a person, stepping outside what is comfortable, having discussions with strangers about politics and business and race and life is terribly uncomfortable.

The kind of shake up that is refreshing for the mind.

I came back with some ideas, and some memories, a straw hat, and several photographs.
