There is a real inclination to re-brand the Northwoods as a new Portland – tall pines and rocky shores, hip t shirts and third wave coffee. And those things are true of Minnesota – our art and fashion culture, our food and music, are engaging and vibrant. But, we must also embrace that which makes us a little dorky – a little offbeat and hard to classify. That combination is what defines us as a region.
Perhaps a perfect example is Anne and Jeremy’s ice fishing wedding celebration. A friend-based ice fishing tournament brought a lot of joy to this cold cold February day. This was surely the finest, the largest, ice fishing compound ever in Minnesota – comprised of several ice shanties joined together into a small ice fishing village, full of beer and hot cocoa, and a lot of laughter.
