Planning for spontaneity and a Lakewood Chapel Wedding, Minneapolis
Life takes you in directions you don’t imagine and can’t plan for. Being prepared seems to be fundamentally at odds with being spontaneous, and yet all the best planners I know keep space in their lives for the unexpected. Planned spontaneity, perhaps.
And so I truly appreciate the way Shelby and Drew met – going into a store to buy a new phone, not knowing that you would be discussing mobiles with your future spouse.
When you are a military doctor, I suspect you require that planning ability, and also patience, empathy, and grit. Shelby certainly has those things, and she also has another key piece to success – a supportive and loving partner in Drew. Someone also open to the spontaneity of new possibilities, the plans to get them to their end goal.
Their adventures in travel and life are of the international and epic variety, but their love is on a very human scale. Shelby’s parents spent a year preparing their house for a wedding reception on their lawn – full of lawn games and laughter, cold drinks and warm conversations. It was at that home that Drew proposed to Shelby, and it was there that they danced together as a married couple.
May their lives continue to be full and exciting – from moving abroad and to raising their daughter. I can only imagine the joy that awaits them as they continue to build their lives together.

She always imagined getting married on her parent’s farm, and that is exactly what Shelby and Drew did, dancing the night away by the horses and the waiving grasses.
