Planning your Minneapolis Elopement

Small moments are still a big deal.

So, people come to plan their elopements for all sorts of reasons. That is awesome, and however you come to an elopement, know that you can have a beautiful and meaningful ceremony to mark the start of your marriage.

Choosing a more intimate celebration of your wedding means you get to focus on the most important things – you and your partner.

I approach elopement photography with two goals – document your joy together, and make sure the photos feel natural and intimate.

Small Minneapolis City Hall wedding and brewery reception – Marie and Andrew

When I say "every challenge is an opportunity", what I mean is this - its raining, and so now the skyline isn't blown out by harsh sun. Now there is a yellow umbrella, and an excuse to cuddle under it. Now there are fewer people walking, and a groovy saturated pavement, and a very grateful me.

Marie and Andrew’s City Hall wedding was pre-pandemic, so it was small but not socially distanced. What would the photos look like if I had shot it during restrictions? Definitely more masks during the cocktail hour and the ceremony. Otherwise, very similar – small group, outside photos when we can.

If you are planning a small wedding in Minneapolis, particularly if you are planning from the east coast, you couldn’t do better than Amber and Jeremy’s intimate wedding at the Bachelor Farmer Afghan room. We started at their hotel for a first look before braving the cold (-10 for a high that day!) to snag a few photos by the Cherry Spoon and Guthrie theater before heading to the Bachelor Farmer for their ceremony.
