Varsity Theater wedding preview – Melanie and Mark

This was an amazing story about love that happened at the Loring and Varsity this weekend. Melanie and Mark and their amazing group of friends and family celebrated and danced and laughed.

Minneapolis Sci-Fi Lovers wedding – Kelly and Jason

Honestly, Kelly and Jason’s intense love of many things sci-fi was such an awesome running theme for their wedding. I loved geeking out with them, finding all the details (because, well, I am also a sci-fi nerd) and documenting how much fun they had. One thing I find difficult as I write about weddings all the time is this – we often look through photos from events and focus on the details that look charming, the elements that stand out. But to me weddings aren’t about the trappings. I don’t want to distill a celebration down to the most common…

Loring Restaurant Wedding Dinkytown Minneapolis – Brittany and David

Thrilled to share Brittany and David’s Loring Restaurant Wedding! It was truly a pleasure to work with them on their lovely and very fun wedding. I’m deeply touched by their kind review of me on the Knot: We can’t recommend Becca enough! Our engagement and wedding photos are gorgeous! Becca helped us relax and made us laugh and feel comfortable, so our genuine happiness showed through in the pictures. – Brittany and David Brittany and David are a wonderful mix of planning and ease, of elegant first dances followed by a caricature artist, or carefully chosen painted shoes (for her)…

Greek Minneapolis Wedding at St Marys Orthodox Church and Varsity Theater

Greek Minneapolis Wedding and 10 years of hustle I’ve been shooting weddings full time for over 10 years. That sometimes feels a little nuts to say out loud. There were many years at the beginning when I felt like I had to scramble and hustle for every piece of new information as I became a better and better wedding photographer. At some point, you realize that the skills you have are good enough for most weddings – you can light things, you can manage timelines, and you can anticipate key events to document. But good enough is death for creativity.…

Lady of Lordes Wedding – Margaux and Tom

I’m not from Minneapolis, but I’ve lived here long enough to love it and want it showcased at its best. I think that is something that I definitely have in common with Tom and Margaux. Regardless, they couldn’t have chosen better locations for their guests to experience Minneapolis. Their wedding at Lady of Lordes church (the oldest church in the city) overlooked the downtown and Mississippi river on a the perfect early fall day. We stopped by Nye’s Polonaise (a classic Minneapolis piano bar) for a drink and some vintage gold booths before heading over for a reception at a…

Minneapolis Wedding at Varsity Theater – Brooke and Adam

New Years resolutions and a Minneapolis Wedding at Varsity: a musing.  We choose to make resolutions at New Year because it is a powerful symbol, but it is nothing more than a symbol. We already know that. We don’t wake up on January 1st with new knowledge or new skills. We don’t wake more capable: we are the same people we were on December 31. And yet there is something compelling about the symbolism, about the formality and the ritual, of tying our hopes to a changing calendar. Of knowing that other people will understand when we say “it was a New Years resolution” Likewise,…

And then we dance {Katie + Ross}

“You were so fun to work with and..we miss you” an unconventional way to email your photographer after your wedding, but perhaps my favorite email to date. I loved working with Katie + Ross for their Varsity Theater wedding – they laughed a lot, brought a laid-back style, and really seemed to be present for their guests. Also, those guests truly know how to dance. In short – Back at you, Katie and Ross – I miss you, too!

Loring Pasta Bar wedding ceremony – Heidi + Nick

The wedding party was neatly arranged – a pleasant balance of height and color – I snapped a picture, and then a swarm of runners raced past. We had inadvertently posed at the start of a 5K, and the wedding party cheered them on. And thus began Nick and Heidi’s wedding. They may be accountants and natural planners, but they allow a lot of spontaneity to pop in, and that makes for a beautiful combination. ABOUT THEIR LORING WEDDING The Loring restaurant is one of the most unique spaces in the country for a wedding ceremony. Guests always are shocked…
