This winter Aria wedding is from a world before COVID, so you won’t see the masks, distancing, and smaller sizes that mark this time in our history. Maura and Tony’s winter Aria wedding was the kind of intimate and joy-filled day that stays with me. Their ceremony, in the lobby/foyer of Aria in Minneapolis, was bright with an industrial vibe. Their reception featured both a pretzel bar and a dessert bar (amazing job, as always, Angel Food Bakery!)
But what stands out the most, particularly in light of the global pandemic that followed it, is the closeness. The unaffected intimacy, and how much we could take that for granted. The casual hugging, the sharing of food and space and air.
I’m so happy to share this beautiful wedding, and hoping these lovely memories have been a balm during the isolation of 2020.
WHAT I SEE: a mix of lighting temperatures, deep shadows and bright highlights, and backlighting. WHAT I WANT YOU TO SEE: this gorgeous dreamy ceremony for Maura and Tony This is a favorite image of Maura and Tony for their Aria wedding. The day was cold but sunny, perfect for a quick spin around the warehouse district. The inside of Aria is an amazing space, and also requires a plan for how to bring in the architectural detail while preserving the crispness of people and expression. For this group portrait, it is lit from the side for drama and balance. My favorite portraits have a “lived in” quality – like I just found a moment of interaction. I think I told a joke, and we all laughed together. Bring me a sunny flare of light on a cold day, and joy. Just married at Aria in Minneapolis.

This view of Aria’s interior will never get old – the immense space feels intimate with Maura and Tony framed in the window overlooking their reception. Dessert bar by Angel Food in Minneapolis for this Aria wedding. The sign of a good wedding toast – laughing and kissing! A first dance on the stage of Aria is a beautiful way to start a marriage.
