I love daytime weddings – everyone is so alert and excited, there is often brunch food, and dancing while the sun is out just seems super joyous!
Emma and Talhah’s daytime McNamara wedding was full of life and laughter, an unexpected amount of hula hooping, and general merriment.
When Talhah and Emma contacted me, they were specifically interested to know how lighting would work in the modern space at McNamara and during the high noon sun.
The harsh light provided a more dramatic skyline for their portraits. A mix of sunlight and artificial lighting allowed for spotlight effect during the dances, and lots of laughter throughout.
Full noon sun on the stone arch bridge can sometimes be a bear to deal with, but this panorama features the Minneapolis skyline in all its glory Emma totally surprised Talhah with the Swedish wedding crown she wore – he had never seen one before. Tallhah adjusts his tie before portraits Wedding party and skyline I love the contrast of the shodows on the buildings for this black and white image. Wedding party walking back to land I don’t always show traditional formal portraits, but I always spend time making sure everyone looks great – here is the wedding party with the ring bearer and flower girl Emma, joyous, before the ceremony Talhah, dapper Some last adjustments to the watch Emma had both of her parents walk her down the aisle for the ceremony McNamara is a modern location for a wedding ceremony – here the unusual angled windows serve as a backdrop Newly married – one of my favorite moments Little angles of light go everywhere during the daytime at McNamara – I waited for the best man to walk into just the right beam Emma looks on at toasts For some reason, there was a hula hoop contest in the middle of the reception (the maid of honor had some reasoning) and it was awesome. Emma kept that hoop up for minutes! I enjoy taking portraits of the inner circle of guests – this is Emma’s mom during speeches – enjoying the celebration For most weddings, I can control the ambient light. But for a daytime wedding, I have to also balance the harsh sun – I love the way this image came together I don’t always get a photo of all guests, but this one was important to the bride and groom! Emma and Talhah, and a lot of other people’s dissertations A corner of McNamara Emma and Talhah, at the end of their reception!
