If music be the food of love
Sing on, sing on, sing on, sing on
‘Til I am filled, am filled with joy
For then my listening soul you move
For then my listening soul you move
To pleasures that can never cloy
Your eyes, your mien, your tongue declare
That you are music everywhere
– Lyrics by Henry Purcell (based on Shakespeare)
Ann and Jim met in a community orchestra, they met over the course of years, or at different times. The specifics don’t matter – the tune is the same – they fell in love, they are perfectly suited to each other, they love music, they are married.
It is always an immense pleasure to document someone’s wedding. I particularly enjoy (as with Ann and Jim) when we can chat for an hour over a beer about topics as diverse as wheat blight and tubas. But it is truly the highest compliment when I get to work with a family more than one time – when, seeing me work, they choose me again. I photographed Ann’s sister (yay Karen!) a few years ago. Thank you for having me document your family again.

Nothing quite says timeless and Minnesota quite like the wheat that was incorporated into Ann’s bouquet and Jim’s boutonniere – a perfect tie in to Jim’s work with grain science but also to the history of Minnesota. Ann’s slightly Victorian dress is from the 80’s and was found second hand and tailored to remove sleeves.
