This is a wedding I have held dear to my heart for many reasons. This wedding is gorgeous. These two men have an incredible group of people around them, from family to close friends and community beyond. They literally built part of this wedding together (more on that later). And they are two people very much in the world – building and writing and creating around them. I’ve also been honored to document several other of their friends’ weddings, so celebrating and documenting celebrations with these folks has been a pleasure.

Building a Wooden Wedding Arch
An outward symbol of an inward commitment
The word “handcrafted” sometimes has a pejorative meaning, but in this case Tane and Eric literally built their wedding arch. They built it with the purpose of reusing it in their garden of the home they share.
Could there be a better physical manifestation of commitment than walking under your wedding arch together every time you use your yard? I’m open to hearing ideas, but the answer is clearly no.
The woodworking also involved homemade vases for flower centerpieces for thisr reception.
But all of that is the fun details surrounding their wedding, and as much as I could keep talking about love as a woodshop, I’d rather talk about Tane and Eric. Their total joy in planning together. Their shared vision. Their articulate vows. Their joyful first dances, and their enormous circle of friends.
Outdoor Ceremony at Nicollet Island Pavilion
When the weather cooperates, you cannot show off Minneapolis better than the patio space of Nicollet Island Pavilion. Overlooking the Mississippi river with views of downtown Minneapolis, and shaded by large trees, it is a rate space of intimacy amidst the city.
Enjoying Outdoor Space at Nicollet Island Pavilion
Indoor and outdoor space transitions from cocktail hour into the evening. For Tane and Eric’s wedding, the night ended with S’mores and bonfires.
